Semester's Almost Through!

Thanksgiving Break is over, it went by so fast. It felt like a normal weekend rather than almost a week. But that is okay, I got to spend a lot of time with my mom and my sister. My dad and my brother went hunting so I didn't get to see very much of them. It's hard to believe that we only have 3 weeks left of classes. Well technically it's 2 weeks of  classes and 1 week of finals, but still, only 3 weeks left in the semester. I cannot wait for Christmas Break. I know we just came back from break, but I think that I'm ready for another one. And Christmas too! Only 4 weeks away! I am so excited for Christmas because I was unable to see my dad's side of the family for Thanksgiving and it has been so long since we've all gotten together, and I miss seeing them. My Thanksgiving was ok, I spent it with my mom's side of the family for the first time. Before this year her parents have always been in Florida for this part of the year, so that was a different experience. I got to meet my cousin Brittany's husband, Luke, for the first time over break because we were unable to attend their wedding due to the fact that one of my cousins on my dad's side of the family was getting married the same day, and we were all in the wedding. (One of the consequences of having such a large family!) He was a very nice young man and they are so cute together so I was very happy.

THANKSGIVING BREAK!

I nice long needed break! That is what I so desperately need right now. I am so excited to be going home for almost a whole week. I have missed my family very much and can't wait to see them. This year's Thanksgiving is going to be much different for me because my grandma on my father's side will be in St. Louis and we have always had Thanksgiving at her house. This year this obviously this will not be happening. However, my grandparents on my mother's side are going to be in town for Thanksgiving this year. This will be the first time that they will be in Indiana for the holidays. Usually thay are in Florida this time of year, but this past summer they decided to move back up here. It will be interesting to see how the holidays play out this year.
I wish that I could go home for Thanksgiving Break this Friday rather than Tuesday, but I still have classes on Monday and Tuesday. I am also really excited to see the new Harry Potter movie! I hope they don't mess it up and that it's as good as the book!

44th Annual CMA Awards

Wednesday's CMA's were hosted again by none other than Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood. I love it when these two host, they are so funny together. It was a great night for everyone, especially the birthday girl, Miss Miranda Lambert who had never won a CMA before, but ended up taking home 4 CMA's including: Female Vocalist, Album of the Year, Video of the Year, and Song of the Year. She also performed her new hit single, "That's the Way the World Goes Round," as well a tribute to Loretta Lynn, "Coal Miner's Daughter," along side Sheryl Crow and Loretta Lynn herself. Her fiance, Blake Shelton, did great for himself as well, taking home Male Vocalist and Musical Event of the Year. The couple did so well that Brad actually said that "After thg night they're having, I think we can expect a baby in about 9 months."
However, host Brad Paisley had the biggest night of all, winning the top honor, Entertainer of the Year! After winning the award he said that "If you see a turtle up on a fence post, he didn't get up there by himself." Truer words could not have been spoken, in this world today you can't hardly achieve anything without the help of those who care about you.

Other big winners included: Lady Antebellum, Zac Brown Band, and Sugarland.

Writing My Research Argument Rough Draft

When I first sat down to write this paper, it just wasn't coming to me. All I managed to write was the introduction, after that my mind was drawing a blank. After a few hours of doing something else I was finally able to come back to it and actually write the paper. I guess I just needed to be in the right mood and setting and I wasn't when I first sat down. However, the second time everything seemed to come out just fine.
I wrote the roght draft for my research argument on Fri. and Sat. I had a little bit of difficulty combining the research and my argument. I mean it's pretty obvious that I feel that college textbooks should be cheaper, the problem is that hardly anyone disagrees with me. So I am not sure how well my point came across in my paper, I felt that most of what I had to say was just the research.
Maybe it's all in my head, but I don't feel very confident about this paper,so I am really looking forward to my conference on Wednesday so that I can get some feedback that will hopefully help me to fix my paper.

History Lecture

Today I received and e-mail from my history professor informing us that instead of having class next Thursday, we are required to attend a lecture by Dr. Ali Dinar. The lecture is to be about the "Darfur in Regional and International Contexts." As proof that we attended the lecture, we are required to fill out a questionaire and turn it in at the conclusion of the lecture. I am really not excited about this. Sure the questionaire should be simple, but the lecture is to take place in the Alumnic Center, which I just learned is clear down by the stadum! I am sure that every thing will be fine, however I will feel better when it is all over.

Research Process

Our group didn't have any problem writing the proposal. We simply put our heads together and combined our thoughts into the proposal. Finding good sources has been a little bit difficult because most of the ones we've found have been from several years ago. Evaluating the sources has also been dificult because most of them have simply been people's opinions, with no evidence to back up their claims.
Other than the goal proposal, I have not had much time to work on the paper. I have been so busy with my paper for history class, which is really hard. Hopefully once it is finished I will have lots of time to work on this paper!

Working in Groups

So far, I have not encountered any problems with working in my group. Tiffany, Amanda, and Benny are great people to work with. We didn't have any problem discussing and agreeing on a topic for us to write about. We all agreed that the real cost of college textbooks would be a great topic to do our research papers on. Not only is it a big issue right now, but we and the rest of the class can all relate to it quite easily. I think it will be helpful for us to start off in groups to help find sites and organize our thoughts and ideas.

Missing My Mommy

This has been an especially difficult week for me, and I find that I am missing my mom even more than normal. This is due to the fact that I am rather sick this weekend. I think that I may have a sinus infection, if not, just a very bad cold. This is the first time that I have ever been sick away from home and I am really not enjoying it. I really miss being able to lazy around in front of the TV all day with mommy there to take care of my every need. I am praying that whatever this is that I have clears up fast, because it is making me miserable. Luckily the weekend is almost here and I can spend the whole time in bed recooperating. Unfortunately most of my friends are going home for the weekend so I will be on my own, but maybe that will encourage me to take it easy and relax.

History 150

I officially hate my history class. It sucks. Not only does the professor give us homework assignments that take 4 hours to complete. He teaches the freshman course as if it were a senior course, and goes way too fast in class. No one in class is able to keep up with him and copy down the notes before he moves on to the next slide in his powerpoint presentation. What's worst is that last Thursday he assigned a 15 page midterm that we have to complete by this Thursday. It is taking sooooo long to complete.
Today's class is going to be especially boring because my friend that I usually sit with will be gone on a field trip today. This is going to make the class even worse than it normally is, hopefully I will be able to stay awake and on topic for it. Wish me luck!

InQsit Testing Lab

I had my first InQsit test today. Let me just say that it was a major pain in my ass. First, signing up for a lab is really difficult if you have no idea what you are doing. This was me. The professor gave us absolutely no information on what to do, she just sent an e-mail saying the test was uploaded and that we had until Friday to take it. So I logged onto InQuist and somehow ended up on another page that would not allow me access. I was getting extremely frustrated until my friend helped me to figure out what I was doing wrong. It turns out that rather than signing up for the lab, I was actually trying to take the exam from my laptop. But once I got everything straigtened out and was looking through the available times, I realized that the only one I could do was at 9:15 the next morning. I was a little bit worried becasue I have a class from 8-8:50. I was really freaking out because I had a test in that class as well so we ran over a little bit. I ended up having to run from West Quad all the way to Robert Bell. Luckily I made it to my appointment 5 minutes early. The teacher had told us that the test would take about an hour, so I scheduled my appointment for that long. The test turned out to be about the easiest I had ever taken before. It only took me 5 minutes to complete it. All of that worrying for nothing. But I was feeling pretty good when I left the lab, which I don't usually after a test. So that was good.

Season Premiere Week

Awww, the week of season premieres has finally arrived. So much TV to watch so little time. Monday I've got Chuck as well as Mike and Molly. Neither of which caused any dissappointment. I was a little bit worried about how this season of Chuck would go considering how they ended things last season, but all turned out perfect. Tuesday means the best show on TV, NCIS, boy what a nail biter the season finale was. But the premiere did not dissappoint either. Gibbss, Jackson, and Franks are so BA. The ending was absolutely amazing! Wednesday night was Criminal Minds. Let me just say I had forgotten how utterly creepy TIm Curry was in that role. This one was another nail biter. Ending with Derek and a woman tied up bleeding on the floor with the team not knowing where they are, while Tim Curry's character kidnaps the woman's niece. And not to mention that her father is lying dead on the floor after being shot by Tim Curry. Finally tonight, Thurday. Bones and The Big Bang Theory. Bones I was extememly worried about considering that at the end of last season everyone wen their seperate ways. Brennan and Daisy went to the Maluku Isands, Booth to Afghanistan, Angela and Hodgins to France, Sweets to play the piano at the mall, and all of Brennan's grad students have left the field of anthropology. Weird I know. But it wall turned out just fine, when they all come back 7 months later to help save Cam's job. And last but certainly not least, The Big Bang Theory, which I have not yet had the chance to watch. However, I can see no way that it could dissappoint me either because they are all just so funny. And Sheldon now has a girlfriend, there is no way that this will not be hilarious!

Hope everyone else had a great week, and if I spoiled something about any of the above shows I'm truly sorry!

Lazy Weekend

Don't you just love having nothing to do over the weekend and being able to lounge around all weekend long! I know I do. That was the type of weekend that I had. Friday night I went to see Toy Story 3 in Pruis Hall with my friend Matt. It was just as good as I remembered. Made me laugh throughout the whole movie, until the ending and once again it made me cry. Probably because this is kind of the movie of our lives. We were little kids when Andy was a little kid going on adventures with his toys, and now that Andy is going to college, so are we.

Saturday morning I got to sleep in, it was awesome! Nearly everyone on campus either went home for the weekend or up to Purdue. I went to Walmart at 10am and sitting on the bench waiting for the bus I literally saw 2 people. There was absolutely no one here. After I got back from Walmart I lounged around my room the rest of the day, watching movies and doing some homework.

Sunday was another lazy day, church, then laundry, and a nice nap. Unfortunately the weekend was too short, and Monday came way too fast.

Birthday Card

Today after lunch, I went to the bookstore to do a little bit of shopping. A little bit actually turned into a ton of shopping, but that's a different story. Anyways, I was just browsing through the cards, when one with a russian blue kitty on the front caught my eye. (my kitty at home is a russian blue) I opened the card to discover that it was a birthday card, one that would actually be perfect for my mother. Even though her birthday isn't until February, I could not help myself. I bought the card. I mean what are the odds that I will find a card that perfect for her closer to her birthday. So now my mission is to not lose it between now and February!

Fall Festival

I went home this past weekend for an event known as the Fall Festival. I have gone to it for as long as I can remember. It is so much fun. This year the theme was Heroes since is took place on September 11. Like most parades, it begins with the procession of police cars and firetrucks. Normally when they come through they have their lights flashing and horns blaring, but not this time. They had their lights on, but they drove through in a veil of silence. If you weren't paying attention, you would not have known that the parade had even started.

The parade itself was awesome, I got to see alot of my old friends. Like most parades, they were throughing candy. Since I am older now I didn't get nearly as much candy as I used to, but I still got way more than I expected to get. Especially from the little kids that recognized me from church. I think my favorite part of the parade was actually the last group that went through. The Choralaires, the all-girls choir at Zionsville High School. I had several friends in the group, but also they were the most enthusiastic of everyone. Plus, they gave out lots of candy.

The parade took place on Saturday morning, and it did rain. But luckily there was not a down pour. It mostly misted throughout the whole morning. Luckity we were sitting underneath a tree, so we didn't get very wet, but it was rather cold. Not that either of these things slowed us down.

Once the parade was over, the hordes of people made their way down to the park where the festival itself was being held. I was a little bit disappointed in the booths that they had this year. In years past, there was tent after tent of arts and crafts, antique furniture, jewlery, designer bags, amd more. This year there was a very limited selection of all these things. Even the advertising tent was lacking. Either way, I still had a lot of fun, hanging out with my mom and my brother and sister.

Fire Drill

Fire Drills in the dorms suck majorly. Especially when they occur after 9 o'clock! You would think that passing by cars would pay more attention when there is a swarm of hundreds of people crossing the street in the dark. But no, they go speeding by trying to take us all out. The things that people do just amaze me.

Labor Day Weekend

I was sooo excited to go home for labor day! I was so happy to see my family and my kitty. I can't believe I'm about to say this but I actually missed my brother, never thought that would happen. It was definitely the best weekend I've had in a while. Mom came up for lunch and then we headed home. Luckily I beat my brother and sister home from school, so I got to surprise them.

I did find it rather funny that I had been gone from home for two and a half weeks and the first thing my dad has me do when I get back is mow the lawn. (Gee Dad, I missed you too!) Actually I really did miss my dad, and according to Mom, he really missed me too. After the lawn was mowed, we even played corn hole. I hadn't had an opportunity to play all summer, so that was awesome.

Sunday was by far the best day though, we went to my grandparents lakehouse! It was so great to get to see all of my cousins, aunts, uncles, and my grandparents. There it was actually rather chilly in the shade. We went on a boat ride and had to wear sweatshirts, it was ridiculous.

Monday I went to the movies with my little sister and all of her little friends (that was crazy!). We saw Vampire's Suck, it was very funny. The movie is supposed to be a spoof of Twilight, and they did a great job. Don't get me wrong, it was totally stupid, but still very funny. After the movie, we headed straight up here and my fun weekend with my family away from school was over. However, I'm going home again this weekend for the Fall Festival!

CMA Music Festival

Ever since I arrived at school, the TV connection has steadily been getting worse. It was rather fuzzy when I first moved in but it was still watchable. However it ended up so bad that there were days it was so fuzzy that you could not tell what was on the TV screen. We would also continually lose the signal completely. It was driving me absolutely crazy not being able to watch tht TV whenever I wanted.

I guess I'm pretty spoiled when it comes to the TV. Despite the fact that we don't have cable at my house, I still was constantly watching the TV. Not matter what I was doing, whether it was homework, cleaning the kitchen, or simply reading a book, I had the TV on. I was beginning to go a bit stir crazy here without it, luckily I brought enough movies to get through this rough patch.

I had the best surprise today after my Water Aerobics class. I decided to check the TV again and what do you know? It was the best reception we have had since I've been here. The other day I asked my RA about what was going on with the cable, checking to make sure that I wasn't the only one who was having problems with it. Luckily I wasn't. She told me that the construction workers accidently hit the cable line, and that there was problems not only in our building but also in two others. She informed me that they were "working on it," but I was still pretty skeptical. Then today when it did get fixed I was very excited!

Just in time for the CMA Music Festival tonight!!!! :)

Online Lecture

Ok, so my History 150 profesor is out of town this week so we don't have to go to class. When I first got the e-mail informing us of this I was super excited, until I realized that we would have to watch the lectures online, and on our own time. Let me just say that online lectures are no fun whatsoever. Not only did it take me half an hour to figure out what the hell I was doing. The lecture was hald an hour longer than the class is supposed to be! But I got through it and once I knew what I was doing it wasn't so bad. However, I learned that I definitely prefer learning within the classroom environment.
